BiciSport Belgium @ 13 Sept - Eddy Ver Hulst taking his grandson (Briek) out for a 30k ride around the picturesque laneways between Temse and Antwerp in East Flanders. The Ver Hulst family has supported many BiciSport riders in Belgium since 1987.  Briek is named after the legendary Belgian cyclist Briek Schotte (pictured below)

Alberic (“Briek”) Schotte won the World Professional Road Championships in 1948 and 1950 (wearing the World Champions jersey above), plus Briek won the Tour of Flanders in 1942 and 1948.  His nickname was Iron Briek due to his “Flemish hardness”.

  • Recent announcements by the NSW Government on 9 September indicates a possible return to community sport when the vaccine rate hits the well published 80% figure. This is anticipated by mid November but there is no precise date yet on a return to community sport

The team was managed by the legendary Walter Godefroot (Belgium) and every DS on the team was both talented & highly skilled. Bikes were either Pinarello, Giant or Eddy Merckx. Team kit was a stylish pink/black/white for the 29 riders on the team roster. The mega team won and won big in all disciplines of the sport - Classics, Tours, the Olympics. The win list was endless and looking at the team roster it was difficult to see who were the domestics in this talented gruppetto. This was a champion team loaded with individual champions - Rijs, Zabel, Aldag, Botero, Savodelli, Aerts, Hondo, Julich, Ullrich, Vino, Kloden, Guerini, Gerdermann, Griepel, Wesemann, Hammond, Hansen, Evans, Rogers, Klier and Merckx … how much talent can you squeeze into one team ?
