BiciSport Sydney is sponsoring the 26th Grote Prijs Van Loon on 20 March at Velle in East Flanders for “nieuwelingen” (young riders) over 55k and 11 laps.
Carrera Professional Cycling Team (Italy) - 1984-96
The team was originally formed in 1979 and sponsored by Inoxpran, then onto Carrera Jeans from 1984. The team split again in 1997 when the Mercatone team was formed and most of the Carrera team departed with Pantani. Bikes were Battaglin.
The Carrera team had numerous winners in Roberto Visenteni (2nd ‘83 Giro, 1st ‘86 Giro), Stephen Roche (‘87 Romandie, ‘87 Giro, ‘87 Tour, ‘87 World Championships), supported by Bontempi, Sorenson, Ghirotto and Chiappucci (1st ‘91 Milan San Remo) & Marco Pantani (who was rebirthed into the new Mercatone team in 1997). The team had a long and esteemed history but was caught up in the Conconi drug enquiry towards the end and it all finished badly and matters only compounded further at Mercatone.
