Pelforth-Sauvage-Lejeune Pro Cycling Team (France) - 1960-68

A classic French team as the picture above at the 1967 Tour de France suggests (when was the last time you wore a suit & tie to a coffee shop at the Tour de France !). Pelforth was French beer and Lejeune supplied the French bikes. Pelforth team manager was Maurice De Muer who later moved onto the Peugeot-BP team in the 1970’s.

A classy Pelforth grupetto with Jan Janssen (Netherlands) the stand out lead act. Janssen’s best years were 1967 & 68 when he won the Tour of Spain, Paris Roubaix, World Road Championships & Tour de France plus the Antwerp 6 Day track race for good measure (assuming here it wasn’t a well paid & pre-arranged gift). Janssen’s career came to a sudden halt when one Eddy Merckx came along and that was that. Other team mates were also very gifted - Jose Samyn won a stage in the 1967 Tour de France, Jean Marie Leblanc went on to being the Tour de France Race Director for several years, Johny Schleck (father of the Schleck brothers) the Groussard brothers, the Guyot brothers & Willy Monty.
