Steve Stannard was an outstanding Elite cyclist who shot to fame in 1993 at the Commonwealth Bank Cycle Classic from Coffs Harbour to Canberra. Steve finished top 10 on General Classification and took on the might of the AIS National Team (and several European pro teams) which included the likes of Matt White (now a Mitchelton Scott DS) and Henk Vogels. The Northern Sydney CC club team was sponsored by Australian Bananas and you couldn’t miss them in their flamboyant orange & yellow knicks (something of a radical fashion statement at the time). Team members - Ian Brindley, Mike O’Reilly (DS), Steve Stannard, Ben Litchfield, Bart Hickson, Mark Rowling (mechanic) & Phil Chapman
