RACE KEEPER VERSUS RACE SEEKER VERSUS RACE EXECUTIONER

  • The smaller club events have quietly restarted (at Heffron Park, Southern Highlands, Lansdowne Park, Eastern Creek, Penrith, Parramatta & West Head) but the larger promotions and cyclosportives remain in the Covid hurt box. It would be fair to say that mass participation events (with more than 500 starters) have a real problem at present.

RACE EXECUTIONER UPDATE - LATEST LISTING

  • Note that bigger events continue to be cancelled as promoters feel the financial pain of complying with the ever changing Covid 19 climate coupled with border restrictions that again can change at a moments notice.

  • You know things are tough when the Herald Sun Tour is due February 21 and cancels in August 20.

  • Recent cancellations include -

    • Aug 29 - Cootamundra Open.

    • Sept 12 - Gunnedah Weekend (CycNSW)

    • Oct 5 - Gears & Beers Cyclosportive (Wagga)

A truly tough & talented Classics team.

Hitachi # 2 - 1987 Tour of Flanders and Claude C headed for another Classic victory. Groupsets were Mavic, framesets were Italian Rossin being the R on the headset.

Not strictly in the Hitachi sponsorship era but at least its in the same team …. who can resist Claude C in the World Champions jersey

Hitachi # 4 - Sponsorship started with Belgian Splendor bikes way back in 1975, then it varied through Admiral (televisions), Europ Decor (furniture), Hitachi (from 1985 until 1989), even Bosal (being car mufflers !!). Framesets switched from Splendor (originally), to the Italian built Rossin, then finally Eddy Merckx. Groupsets seemed be whatever they could beg, borrow or steal … but generally a blend of Campagnolo or Mavic. Best team result was winning the Team Classification at the 1980 Tour of Spain.
