Bic Professional Cycling Team - With storm clouds brewing during a Tour de France mountains stage a classic photo of Bernard Labourdette (Bic)
Bic Professional Cycling Team (France) from 1967 to 1974. Pictured above is Jacques Anquetil (5 times Tour de France winner) with Felice Gimondi at the Giro.
Bic is a consumer goods company with pens & razor blades. The orange & white jersey features highly in any iconic jersey of all time competition. Bikes were either Geminiani, Anquetil and finally Motobecane. Groupsets in the early years were Mafac, Stronglight and in the later years it was Campagnolo.
A team loaded with extreme levels of outright talent. Winners were grinners and they smiled a lot with Tour de France winners in Jacques Anquetil, Jan Janssen, Luis Ocana and Lucien Aimar plus a future Tour de France Race Director in Jean Marie Leblanc. Some great team support riders in Raymond Riotte & Charly Grosskost. If that wasn’t enough the single day Classic squad was brimming with talent in Eric Leman, Roger Rosiers, Edward Sels (all Belgian) and English riders Vin Denson and Michael Wright.
Bic Professional Cycling Team featured Luis Ocana (winner 1973 Tour de France) atop the Motobecane Titanium frame. This was one of the earliest titanium framesets loaded with a Campagnolo groupset. Brake levers and chainwheels were heavily drilled and Luis enjoyed large flange Campagnolo hubs.
